Numerous locations throughout the U.S. have implemented local ordinances to provide paid sick and safety leave to employees who are not otherwise covered by company benefits. The policies and procedures for each of these locations are outlined below.

California Sick & Safety Leave

Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 24 hours.​

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 90th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 1 year from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and available to use upon rehire.

Medical documentation may not be a requirement to use paid sick leave.

Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 40 hours.

Employees who work at least 80 hours within any 120-day period are eligible to use accrued sick leave after the 180th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 12 months, their previous sick leave balance will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional can be required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.

Chicago Sick & Safety Leave


Colorado Sick & Safety Leave



Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 48 hours.

Employees may use sick leave as it accrues.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 6 months, their previous sick leave
balance will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional can be required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for 4 or more consecutive days.

Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 56 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave as of the 90th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 1 year from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional can be required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.

District of Columbia Sick & Safety Leave




Los Angeles Sick & Safety Leave





Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 48 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave as of the 90th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 1 year from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional can be required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.

Maryland Sick & Safety Leave






Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 40 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 106th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 37 weeks from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional is required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 2 consecutive days, or the employee uses the leave during the period between the first 107 and 120 calendar days of employment.

Minneapolis Sick & Safety Leave







Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 48 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 90th day of employment

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 90 days from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional is required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.

Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 56 hours.

Employees may use sick and safety leave upon the beginning of their employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 6 months from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement. In contrast, if the employee’s break in employment is more than 6 months, their previous sick leave balance will not be reinstated

New York City Sick & Safety Leave







Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 40 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 120th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 6 months from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional is required when employees use paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.

New Jersey Sick & Safety Leave







Oregon Sick & Safety Leave







Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 40 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 90th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 9 months, the previous balance will be reinstated and entitled to use paid sick leave upon rehire.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional can be required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.

Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 40 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 90th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect but is rehired within 6 months of separation, previously accrued sick leave that was not used shall be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional is required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 2 consecutive days.

Philadelphia Sick & Safety Leave







Pittsburgh Sick & Safety Leave







Annual hours of sick and safety leave: 40 hours.

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 90th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 6 months from the date of separation, their previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement. In contrast, if the employee’s break in employment is more than 6 months, their previous sick leave balance will not be reinstated. The employee will not be eligible to use sick leave for 90 days.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional is required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.

Employees may use accrued sick leave after the 90th day of employment.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 1 year from the date of separation, previous balance of sick leave will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use suck accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

If an employee separates from TransPerfect and is rehired within 9 months, their previous balance will be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use such accrued sick leave at any time after such reinstatement.

Reasonable documentation from a medical professional can be required when an employee uses paid sick leave, for medical purposes, for more than 3 consecutive days.
